It’s Holy Week, and whether you just recently went to confession, or if you haven’t been in several years, there’s no better time to go. Many Catholics are afraid to go, or believe they don’t need to confess their sins to a priest because they pray to God for forgiveness. Scripture tells us:
“As the Father has sent me, even so I send you. . . . Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” (John 20:21–23).
Here are a couple of my favorite quotes from Saints regarding confession:
“In the life of the body a man is sometimes sick, and unless he takes medicine, he will die. Even so in the spiritual life a man is sick on account of sin. For that reason he needs medicine so that he may be restored to health; and this grace is bestowed in the Sacrament of Penance.” -St. Thomas Aquinas
“Confession heals, confession justifies, confession grants pardon of sin, all hope consists in confession; in confession there is a chance for mercy.” -St. Isidore of Seville
And here is a beautiful video created by Catholics Come Home that expresses the joy we experience knowing God forgives our sins, and knowing that we can forgive ourselves. You can go here more information regarding confession.
